Robbie Williams - Somethin' Stupid Lyrics

Featuring: Nicole Kidman

Send this Ringtone to your Cell

I know I stand in line
Until you think you have the time
To spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance
I know that there's a chance
You won't be leaving with me

Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like I love you

I can see it in your eyes
You still despise the same old lines
You heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true
And never seemed so right before

I practice every day to find some clever
lines to say
To make the meaning come true
But then I think I'll wait until the evening
gets late
And I'm alone with you

The time is right
Your perfume fills my head
The stars get red
And oh the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like I love you
I love you...

Song details

"Somethin' Stupid" is a song written by C. Carson Parks and originally recorded in 1966 by Parks and his wife Gail Foote, as "Carson and Gaile". It is best known in the hit version by Frank Sinatra and his daughter, Nancy Sinatra.

Robbie's first DVD single, Somethin' Stupid was also the one and only track released from Robbie's big band classic Swing When You're Winning.

Speaking about the track, sung with silver screen siren Nicole Kidman, Robbie said: "I asked her if she would be interested, fully expecting to be knocked back - she's a proper Hollywood star! - but she said yes!" Nicole was delighted with the duet.

Expressing her mutual admiration, she said: "He was a total pleasure to work with - now I'm seriously thinking of getting a tattoo like his."

With her perfume filling his head, Robbie and Nicole engage in a little mutual crooning on the vintage duet. "I was very nervous" admits Nicole. "But Robbie made it so easy for me. He was extremely encouraging". Both singers are delighted with the results. "Nicole's voice has a really lovely tone to it" Robbie adds. "It's a very difficult harmony to sing but Nic sailed through it".

Somethin' Stupid was Robbie's fifth No.1 in the UK singles chart, staying there for three weeks. A huge hit across Europe, Somethin' Stupid was also the most air-played song on Argentinian radio in December 2001 winning Robbie a wider appeal.
