So scared of breaking it that you wont let it bend
I wrote two hundred letters I will never send
Sometimes these cuts are so much deeper than they seem
You'd rather cover up, I'd rather let them bleed

So let me be and I'll set you free oh yeah
I am in misery there ain't nobody who can comfort me oh yeah
Why wont you answer me? the silence is slowly killing me oh yeah

Girl you really got me bad, you really got me bad
I'm gonna get you back, I'm gonna get you back

Your salty skin and how it mixes in with mine
The way it feels to be completely intertwined
Not that I didn't care, it's that I didn't know
It's not what I didn't feel its what I didn't show

So let me be and I'll set you free
I am in misery there ain't no line that could comfort me oh yeah
Why wont you answer me the silence is slowly killing me, Oh yeah

Girl you really got me bad, you really got me bad
I'm gonna get you back, I'm gonna get you back

You say your faith is shakin' you may be mistaken
Keep me wide awake and waiting for the sun
I'm desperate and confused, so far away from you
I'm getting there, I don't care where I have to run

Why do you do what you do to me yeah
Why wont you answer me answer me yeah
Why do you do what you do to me yeah
Why wont you answer me answer me yeah

I am in misery there ain't no line that could comfort me oh yeah
Why wont you answer me, Your silence is slowing killing me, Oh yeah

Girl you really got me bad, you really got me bad
I'm gonna get you back, I'm gonna get you back
Girl you really got me bad, you really got me bad
I'm gonna get you back, I'm gonna get you back
Girl you really got me bad, you really got me bad

Song facts

"Misery" is a song by American band Maroon 5. It was released on June 22, 2010 by Octone Records via the iTunes Store. The song was released in advance of the band's mid-2010 tour, and is the first single from their third studio album, Hands All Over, which will be released on September 21, 2010.

MTV Buzzworthy stated that the single was "pretty classic Maroon 5", and "a buoyant, poppy affair that has a dark underbelly." AOL Radio stated that it was a "falsetto-pleading, yet upbeat, keyboard-popping track" with a chorus similar to Maroon 5's 2004 single "This Love". The New York Post stated that the single was "exactly the kind of up tempo, falsetto-filled single we've come to expect". Rolling Stone reviewers called the song a "funk-rock singalong" that "some people might have a hard time picking out... from a police line-up of Maroon 5 songs."

Levine stated to MTV News that the song's music video, directed by Joseph Kahn, focuses on violence, rather than sex, where the female lead attempts to kill her lover. In this video appears russian model and Adam Levine's current girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna. The video premiered on July 1 on MTV and VH1.

In the censored or TV version of the video, the violence is altered. An example of this is when the knife the woman is holding and puts between Levine's fingers and then stabs his hand, is digitally changed to an cartoon ice cream and cone. Most of the violence is censored with love hearts, teddy bears or candy.

"Misery" gathered 54,000 first-week downloads causing the song to debut at No. 30 on the Adult Top 40.
