Jesus met the woman at the well
Jesus met the woman at the well
He said woman, woman
You have 5 husbands
Woman, woman
You have 5 husbands
He said woman, woman
The man you with is not yours
He said woman, woman
The man you with is not yours
She went running, running
Down to the city
She went running, running
Down to the city
She said people, people
That man knows
Everything I done
People, people
That man told me
Everything I done
Yes he does, yes he do
Know everything that I done
Yes he does, yes he do
Know everything that I done

Song facts

"I heard this on Mahalia Jackson, live at Carnegie Hall. We played it with the Modern Don Juans and Overmountain Men but it was just another blues sounding shuffle. Matters of taste and sensitivity. When this record started, Robert Childers had this arrangement and form. It preserves little of that great Mahalia track, but it is our version, and imitation is not our goal. What I liked about the words and feel of that song was how I could see the images, some times in a 1960s context, some really southern place with a well on the hill and a little farm town where this woman comes in running and hollering. Our version reflects more the frantic urban setting we live in." - David Childers
