The Resistance is the fifth studio album by English alternative rock band Muse, released in Europe on September 14, 2009, and in North America the next day. It was recorded between September 2008 and May 2009. As their latest album, the main theme of the songs is about political corruption, alien invasion, New World Order conspiracies and more conventional love songs. The album was produced by the band and mixed by Mark Stent.
On its release, The Resistance topped the album charts in 19 countries. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 128,000 copies in its first week of release. It also beat its predecessor, Black Holes and Revelations, in relative album sales, in its debut week in the UK selling approximately 148,000 copies and worldwide 479,000 copies.
