Release date: February 2008
Alas I Cannot Swim is the debut album of British singer-songwriter Laura Marling. It was initially released on 4 February 2008 as part of The Song Box package. In addition to the album itself, this included mementos relating to each track on the album, and a ticket to see her perform at one of various venues across the UK. The album was conventionally released a week later on 11 February 2008. It was produced by Charlie Fink, front-man of indie band Noah and the Whale.
The album was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize. In addition, "Ghosts" appeared in Australian radio station Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2008 at #43, and "Crawled Out of the Sea" was used in the final episode of the third series of Skins.
