''Tonight Tonight,'' the Nashville-bred pop-rockers' bubbly summer smash, provided the perfect soundtrack to surviving the last hours of a shift at Jamba Juice, and the boys largely maintain that level of frivolous fun on Whatever — slathering studio froth over boppy melodies like so much sunblock. Cringey topical references feel less like lyrics than text-message LOLs, but ''Why Don't You Love Me,'' with Demi Lovato, is stealthily moving. B

Ten years from now, Hot Chelle Rae's perfectly of-the-moment pop probably will sound perfectly dated. The Auto-Tuned vocals, the fizzy dance synths, and the lyrical references to vengeful Facebook tags, falling asleep on Skype and Zach Galifianakis have the marks of vaguely guilty pleasures that all will have seemed like good ideas at the time.

And with good reason: The four members of this Nashville dance-pop group are second-generation musicians raised around industry professionals, and they learned their lessons well. In addition to up-to-the-minute pop topicality, the tracks on the band's second album contain tight hooks, savvy cameos (rap duo New Boyz on single I Like It Like That, Demi Lovato on Why Don't You Love Me) and singalong choruses so insanely catchy that they override any sense of restraint.

Whatever has no sense of tomorrow; it's all about Tonight, Tonight: the girls playing beer pong, the beautiful freaks lighting up the place and the morning-after strange tattoos. If there are memory lapses or hangovers ahead, that's no concern. Right now, Hot Chelle Rae is riding a great buzz.
