"Optimus Rhyme Mixtape" album reviews

Chris Webby once again displays how to kill a beat, this time over all industry instrumentals. Just a precursor to his full length album/mixtape The Underclassman that will be released Summer 2010. Enjoy.

As Chris Webby continues to work his way toward his album/mixtape set to drop this year, he provides Optimus Rhyme, a 13-track mixtape to tide us over.

The first highlight of the mixtape arrives instantly with the first track, Buddaflie. Chris Webby gives us an epic reminder of the greatness that was Crazy Town’s beat to Butterfly from 2001. That song was just pure pop and fun, and Webby continues that theme with his rendition on the beat.

Another highlight is when Webby decides to get his Lady GaGa on and use the production from Just Dance. You don’t have to be GaGa fan to understand Red One’s production on Just Dance is great. Webby capitalizing on the beat is a great look.

Webby continues his punchline-oriented flow over all industry-made beats on Optimus Rhyme, making for a fun and entertaining listening experience. With great references to all things drugs, booze, 90s pop culture, suburban life, and being broke, the mixtape is something to be heard by all 20-somethings.

With only one feature on the entire mixtape, it becomes a testament to all things Chris Webby and what he offers as an artist to the genre. He’s in the spotlight on this one and it serves as his last ditch effort to gain a bigger following leading into his “big mixtape” he talked about with The Urbanian in December of 2009.

With Optimus Rhyme starting off 2010, it looks like it’ll be a good year for Chris Webby.
