Release date: March 2012
Wrecking Ball is the 17th studio album by American recording artist Bruce Springsteen, released on March 5, 2012 in the UK and March 6, 2012 in the United States through Columbia Records. The album was produced by Ron Aniello with Bruce Springsteen and executive producer Jon Landau, and features special guest appearances from Tom Morello and Matt Chamberlain. Wrecking Ball was mainly recorded at Stone Hill Studio, Springsteen's home studio at his Colts Neck, NJ farm house.
"The record basically started out as folk music – just me and a guitar singing these songs," Springsteen told Rolling Stone in 2012. "Then Ron Aniello brought a large library of sound that allowed me to explore – like maybe a hip-hop drum loop or country-blues stomp loop. The actual drums came later. There was no preconceived set of instruments that needed to be used, I could go anywhere, do anything, use anything. It was very wide open."
The album debuted at number one in 16 different countries including both the US and UK charts with first week sales of approximately 196,000 and 74,000 copies, respectively.
Wrecking Ball was named best album of 2012 by Rolling Stone and along with the album's first single, "We Take Care of Our Own", was nominated for three Grammy Awards.
