B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray is the debut studio album of American rapper B.o.B, released April 27, 2010, on Grand Hustle Records, Rebel Rock Entertainment and Atlantic Records. Production for the album took place during 2008 to 2010 and was handled by B.o.B, Crada, Dr. Luke, The Smeezingtons, Jim Jonsin, Lil' C, Alex da Kid, Polow da Don, and DJ Frank E.
The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 84,000 copies in its first week. It attained some international charting and produced three singles that achieved chart success, including Billboard hit "Magic" and international hits "Nothin' on You" and "Airplanes. " Upon its release, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray received generally positive reviews from most music critics.
Release and promotion
The album was planned to be released at December 2009, but B.o.B pushed it back to 2010. In November 2009 during an interview, he revealed that his debut album is set to be released in May 2010; on a statement he posted on his Twitter account, B.o.B stated that his album was to be released on May 25, 2010. On February 1, he released a mixtape titled May 25 in honor of his album's release date. The date of the album has since been pushed up to April 27, 2010 due to the success of his single "Nothin' on You". It was released with the bonus tracks "Letters from Vietnam" and "I See Ya" in the U.S. During the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards, B.o.B revealed to Angela Yee that Eminem & Lupe Fiasco will be featured on his debut album.
B.o.B released three street singles: "Haterz Everywhere", "I'll Be in The Sky" and "No Man's Land" along with a music video, which all were not included on the US edition of the album. However,"I'll Be in The Sky" appeared on the UK version as track number 7.
The first official single from the album was "Nothin' on You". The track features singer Bruno Mars and is produced by The Smeezingtons. The single debuted at #89 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the #1 position. The single achieved double platinum status in sales. The second official single was released on April 13, 2010 titled "Airplanes". The single features Hayley Williams of Paramore, and was produced by Alex da Kid. The song charted in nine countries and peaked at #2 in the United States. This was followed by the release of another promotional single in "Bet I" which features T.I. and Playboy Tre. A music video was shot for Bet I which receives heavy rotation on MTV. The single also peaked at #72 on the Hot 100. On July 6, 2010, the rapper announced that the third Single, "Magic" features Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. The rapper would start shooting for the single's music video in mid-July. The video would be set for a mid-August release. It debuted #100 and is currently at its peak of #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Nothin' on You" and "Airplanes" both reached the #1 spot in the UK within 8 weeks of each other. The fourth single, "Don't Let Me Fall," was released on September 28, 2010 in the US.
The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 84,000 copies. It also entered at number one on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Digital Albums, and Rap Albums charts. It fell to number 12 in its second week on the Billboard 200, selling 36,000 additional copies. By its second week, it had sold 148,000 copies in the United States. The album sold 23,000 copies at number 13 in its third week on the Billboard 200. It dropped to number 15 with 20,000 copies sold in its fourth week on the chart. It remained at number 13 and sold 20,000 copies in its fifth week on the chart, bringing its total domestic sales to 210,000 copies by June 6, 2010. As of September 29, 2010 the album domestic sales rest at 412,000 making it the third best selling hip hop album of the year.
Internationally, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray achieved some chart success. In Canada, the album debuted at number seven on the Top 100 albums chart. It also entered at number 42 on the ARIA Top 50 Albums in Australia, and in New Zealand, it entered at number 23 on the RIANZ Top 40 Albums chart. It peaked at number 21 and spent five weeks on the latter chart. In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at number 22 on the Top 40 Albums and at number four on the R&B Albums Chart. It has Since reached a current peak of #17 11 weeks after its first release.
